Ted Budz vs WHAM: What You're Paying For in a 1g Vape
Four ways to spend on one gram, from $20 to $55, and what each price actually buys.
Ted Budz vs WHAM comes down to what one gram of vape oil should cost you. On this site the Ted Buds 1g disposable is $40. WHAM's 1g options are $20 (Bolt, distillate with live terpenes), $25 (510 Cart, live resin) and $55 (Live Rosin, solventless). The Ted Buds listing doesn't name its oil, so the useful question is what each price spells out.
First, the spelling
The brand writes its own name as Teds Budz. That's how its Weedmaps brand page spells it, in the header and the About text alike. Buyers search for "Ted Budz," "Teds Buds" and "Ted Buds" more or less interchangeably, and our own product page is titled TED BUDS 1g. It's the same listing whichever way you type it. From here on, Teds Budz means the brand and Ted Buds 1g means the pen on our shelf.
Who Teds Budz is
According to its Weedmaps brand page, Teds Budz is a Black family-owned and operated distribution business based in Los Angeles. It says it supplies small-batch exotic flower to more than 300 shops from Eureka down to San Diego, and the page lists a California distributor license.
The menu there is built around flower. Most items are 3.5g jars with food-themed names like Oxtails, Duck Fat Fries, Bone Marrow and Gorgonzola. The brand page also lists categories for 1g cartridges, blunts and joints. Some carts sold through California retailers carry a co-brand with Cold Fire Extracts.
One thing to keep straight: that menu is California licensed-market flower and carts. The Ted Buds 1g we carry is a hemp-derived disposable, so go by its own listing rather than the specs of the brand's carts or flower.
What the Ted Buds 1g listing says
The listing describes a grab-and-go pen:
1g, $40.
Hemp-derived, draw-activated and ready out of the box.
No charging and no refills. You uncap it, pull and put it away.
Small enough to close a hand around.
It doesn't say what kind of oil is inside. That gap matters most at this price, because oil type is the main thing separating a $20 gram from a $55 one.
Four prices for one gram
Lined up from cheapest to most expensive, here's what each 1g option on this site states:
$20, WHAM Bolt 1g. Hemp-derived distillate with live terpenes, in a rechargeable device with a bottom charge port. $20 per gram. Shop the Bolt 1g.
$25, WHAM 510 Cart 1g. Live resin in a glass tank with a ceramic coil. It's a cartridge, not a disposable, so it needs a 510 battery you supply. $25 per gram. Shop the 510 Cart.
$40, Ted Buds 1g. All-in-one, draw-activated, no charging. Oil type not listed. $40 per gram.
$55, WHAM Live Rosin 1g. Solventless live rosin pressed from ice-water hash, in a rechargeable device. $55 per gram. Shop the Live Rosin.
Every one of these is exactly one gram, so the per-gram price is the sticker price. The spread between them is about two things: the oil and the hardware.
The oil is most of the price
Three kinds of oil show up on this list, and they're made very differently.
Distillate is cannabinoid oil refined down until little else is left, then flavored. The Bolt adds live terpenes back in for taste. It's the most affordable way to fill a pen, which is why the Bolt 1g sits at $20.
Live resin starts with plants frozen fresh at harvest instead of dried, then pulls the oil out with a solvent. Leafly's glossary defines it as solvent-based for that reason. Freezing keeps more of the plant's own aroma, and that's what the extra $5 on the 510 Cart pays for.
Live rosin also starts fresh-frozen, but skips solvents entirely. Per Leafly, rosin is pressed out with heat and pressure, and live rosin tends to cost more because the process is slow and hands-on. WHAM's version is pressed from ice-water hash, which is why it's the top of the ladder at $55. Our live resin vs live rosin guide covers the trade-offs in more detail, and what hash rosin is explains the starting material.
With the Ted Buds 1g, we can't place it on that ladder by oil, because the listing doesn't say. What you can say is that its $40 price falls between WHAM's live resin cart and WHAM's solventless rosin.
The hardware is the rest
Three of the four are all-in-one: the Bolt 1g, the Ted Buds 1g and the Live Rosin 1g. Nothing to screw together and nothing extra to buy. Of those, the two WHAM pens are rechargeable, while the Ted Buds listing says no charging. A charge port earns its keep at the end of a pen's life, when the battery would otherwise quit before the oil does.
The 510 Cart is the odd one out. It's the cheapest way into live resin here, but only if you already own a 510 battery. If you don't, our 510 thread explainer walks through what you'd need.
What an actual order costs
Each disposable line in the cart has to reach $50, so the cart sets the quantity:
Ted Buds 1g at $40: sold in twos, so $80 for 2 grams.
Bolt 1g at $20: sold in threes, so $60 for 3 grams.
510 Cart at $25: sold in twos, so $50 for 2 grams.
Live Rosin 1g at $55: sold singly.
A side-by-side order is easy to put together. Two Ted Buds plus one WHAM Live Rosin comes to $135. Two Ted Buds plus three Bolt 1g comes to $140. Either clears the $100 mark for free standard shipping; under that, shipping is $9.99. Orders in before 4 PM EST usually ship the same day, Monday through Friday, in plain packaging.
Picking your gram
Go with Ted Buds 1g if you already know and like this pen, or you want a no-charge, uncap-and-pull disposable and the oil type isn't the deciding factor for you.
Go with the WHAM Bolt 1g if price per gram leads. It's half the Ted Buds price, with a charge port.
Go with the WHAM 510 Cart if you own a battery and want live resin for $25.
Go with WHAM Live Rosin 1g if solventless is your line and you're fine paying for it.
