Wholesale THC for Smoke Shops: What to Stock
The products that actually turn over, the margin maths behind each category, and the compliance paperwork a shop needs on file before the first sale.
Stocking hemp-derived THC comes down to three decisions: what turns over, what it earns, and what keeps you compliant. Get those right and the category is one of the strongest on a smoke shop shelf.
The widest margin and the fastest turnover are rarely the same product. Stock both.
What actually moves
Disposable vapes — fastest turnover. No accessories needed, long shelf life, high repeat rate. The safest first category. See
wholesale disposablesGummies — steady and shelf-stable. Appeals to customers who won't smoke. Long dating. See
wholesale gummiesFlower — best margin, shortest clock. Sells hardest on aroma and bag appeal, but ages. See
flower by the poundPre-rolls — convenience buy. Strong impulse category at the counter.
The margin trade-off
Flower has the widest spread and the biggest risk. Bought at a deeper volume tier it is the most profitable thing on the shelf — provided you sell it while it is fresh. Terpenes fade within months and dry flower is hard to move at full price, so it rewards footfall. The timeline is in does THC flower expire.
Units are the opposite. Less spread per piece, but they don't degrade and they reorder predictably. A shop with irregular traffic usually earns more from disposables than from flower it can't turn.
A sensible opening mix
Lead with disposables — fastest proof that the category works for your customers.
Add gummies for the non-smoking segment.
Bring in flower only once footfall is proven, and start at one pound.
Track sell-through weekly and let that set your next tier.

Compliance: the file you must keep
A COA for every batch on your shelf. Showing delta-9 under 0.3% by dry weight plus a contaminant panel, with invoices tying each batch to its report. This is the single most important thing a retailer can get right — if an inspector asks what you are selling, that file is your answer.

Pricing the shelf
Retail pricing in this category is set by what is visible locally, not by your cost. Work backwards: find what comparable shops charge for an eighth or a pen, then check whether your landed cost at the tier you can actually move leaves a workable spread. If it does not, the answer is usually a different grade rather than a higher price.
Cost per gram is the only comparison that means anything. Divide the tier price by 453.6, add shipping, packaging and shrinkage. The maths is worked through in THC wholesale pricing, and grade differences in indoor vs greenhouse vs outdoor.
Smalls are the underrated shelf item
Same flower, smaller buds, materially lower cost per gram. Customers who buy on price rather than bag appeal often prefer them, and the margin is frequently better than top-shelf. See smalls vs top-shelf and our $70 smalls.
Storage is a margin decision
Flower on a shop shelf is on a clock. Terpenes fade, and dry flower is hard to move at full price. Airtight, around 62% humidity, out of window light — the difference between selling a pound and discounting half of it. Method in how to store THCa flower, humidity in best humidity for THCa storage, and the summer problem in storing in summer heat.
Train the counter
Most lost sales in this category are conversations that went badly. Staff should be able to answer three questions without hesitating: is it legal, will it show on a drug test, and how much should I take. Those are covered in is THC legal, how long THC stays in your system and the dosage guide — worth printing for the till.
The drug-test question is the one that loses sales when it is answered badly. The honest answer is short: yes, it will show, because a screen measures the compound and not its legal source. Staff who say that plainly keep customers; staff who fudge it lose them permanently.
Two more worth knowing, because customers ask constantly: what a high actually feels like (here) and whether it smells (yes, exactly like weed). And for the brand question — customers do ask whether this is the real Lil Baby brand — is Lil Baby weed real.

Frequently asked
Disposable vapes turn over fastest because they need no accessories and have a long shelf life. Pre-rolls and gummies follow. Flower carries the highest margin but the shortest shelf life, so it rewards shops with steady footfall rather than occasional traffic.
Federal law does not require a cannabis licence for compliant hemp, but many states and cities require a business licence, a hemp retail permit, or age-verification registration. That obligation sits with you as the retailer, so confirm local requirements before stocking.
A certificate of analysis for every batch on your shelf, showing delta-9 THC below 0.3% by dry weight plus a contaminant panel. Keep invoices tying each batch to its COA. If an inspector asks what you are selling, that file is the answer.
It varies by category. Flower bought at a deeper volume tier carries the widest spread but risks ageing on the shelf. Disposables and gummies carry less spread per unit but move faster and do not degrade, which often produces better returns per month.
Less than you think. Order one tier below your estimate and treat it as a test of turnover and of the supplier. Restock deeper once you know your actual rate of sale, rather than committing to volume you have not proven you can move.
